The mission of
the association is to improve the quality of alternative learning and
teaching in the schools of North Carolina .
-
Provide an association to represent people involved
in, or supporters of, alternative education.
-
Assist LEAs
and the NC Department of Public Instruction in learning about and
promoting alternative education philosophies and concepts.
-
Cooperate with
the State Department of Public Instruction, and with state and
national affiliations that support alternative education.
-
Promote
positive changes of mindsets and attitudes of school personnel as an
integral part of the teacher, education, and educational
administration training process.

Provide
staff development opportunities & publishing and information
dissemination to administrators and alternative educators.

Promote a
network communication system among administrators, alternative
educators, and parents in North Carolina.

Continue to
educate state legislators that education is vital in every student’s
life process and that alternative education expands the role of the
school district to provide nontraditional education opportunities
-
Serve as a
forum in addressing key issues in alternative education.
-
Promote
alternative education schools as communities.
-
Encourage an
active parent role in the development and support of alternative
education.
